Legendary basketball coach John Wooden knew with certainty the secret to a happy life.
Love.
This UCLA coach loved only one woman in his life. Her met her when he was 14. She was the only girl he ever kissed. She was his wife for 53 years. And every month, on the anniversary of her death, he wrote a love letter to her after visiting her grave. Each letter was placed in an envelope and added to the stack of love letters he kept on her pillow.
This video from ESPN brought tears to my eyes and a smile to my lips. To be loved, and to love, so fully and completely is surely the greatest gift. And John Wooden was a wise, wise man.
He died on June 4, 2010 at age 99 but the following video of him is reaching thousands of other people around the world with its simple yet profound message.
