Rosie’s Pet Charity: Dirty Wall Project Heads to India!

Rosie Bitts talks about a unique charity, “Dirty Wall Project”, and shares a rare vlog with DWP founder Kane Ryan from the first fundraiser of the summer. Along with Rosie, Kane Ryan is also a Life As A Human blogger.

I first met Kane Ryan just over a year ago. He was this young, attractive, well-traveled man with a wacky idea: people should give him money and he would do charitable things with it in India. He wasn’t a charity or even a non-profit, he was just a guy with an idea.

I immediately volunteered to perform for free at his first fundraiser. I appreciate moxie and loved the idea that the funds I helped raise would go directly to the people without any pitstops along the way. Kane was true to his word: he took our money back to India and did good things with it.

Health camps were set up, surgeries funded, children’s educational fees provided, a school was built and the money went directly to helping the people who needed it. Since then Dirty Wall Project has had many fundraisers, become a non-profit and will soon be a registered charity. The school in the Saki Naka slum community which was built and funded with Dirty Wall Project (DWP) donations has now been up and running for three months.

Dirty Wall Project has become my “Pet Charity”. Kane and I have become friends and I am perhaps one of DWP’s loudest and most flamboyant supporters. Supporting Dirty Wall Project has helped me feel connected to people on the other side of the world. This summer Kane (with the help of many supporters) raised over $30,000 and I know he will find amazing things to do with this money.

One of the things I love about Kane is that he jumps without looking — he decided he wanted to make a change in the world that is what he is doing.

Happy jumping, Kane. I’ll see you in six months!

You can learn more about Dirty Wall Project at the DWP website. I will be talking about DWP and there will be an information booth set up at yoUnlimited on November 7, 2010 in Victoria B.C. Canada.
