Not to take away from the importance of climate change or anything (because I get it. I do), but I feel compelled to say something.

The movie 2012 rocked. Hard.

Don't judge me.

Thanks so much for your comments and for correcting me on the "ending" of the calendar. I am going to make a notation in the blog post. I appreciate the feedback and the work you are doing to bring some reason to a very hyped-up prediction.

Oh, and that's an Aztec 'Sun Stone', not a Mayan calendar.

Excellent article! (with one minor correction, below)

You are correct. Climate Change/Global Warming is real, and needs to be addressed urgently. I'll point out that it is not only low-lying areas that need to be worried, but also as GW changes weather patterns, I expect that we will see drastic food shortages, as once arable lands become desertified.

Unfortunately some people seem to think that it's a ways off, or that it doesn't exist (thanks to some very odd lobbying efforts)

The correction I would make is in the opening line... the idea that the Mayan calendar "ends" on 12/21/2012 is incorrect. On that day at least one cycle within the calendar ends, but the calendar itself is simply a count of days since the "creation date".

You might like 2012hoax.org/mayan-calendar and 2012hoax.org/mayan-prediction.
