Hi Mikey,

Thanks for stopping in, much appreciated!

Since its release, I've definitely been inspired by the Black Dub record. Very exciting.

It's also cool to think that Dan was contacted by Neil Young after he saw the Black Dub videos on youtube!

Dan also has a book out now called - Soul Mining: A Musical Life - http://tinyurl.com/2wg3a5p

He is a busy man, and I think it all stems from his approach to life and therefore his art.

Cheers

Excellent article.

There's something incredibly calming about Lanois - such a warm character - from his guitar work to his vocals to his mere presence. He's arguably the greatest non-household name around, both as a producer and an artist.

Not surprisingly, much like all of Daniel's work, I'm loving everything I've heard thus far from Black Dub.

Hi Chris

I agree, there is much to be learned from Lanois' guitar playing approach. He consistently plays truly to the song, which as you said, compliments the other elements within it. I like the idea that Lanios can be a technician when he wants, but melody and soul come first. Within his direct approach, he has found an extraordinary balance between sonic complexity and soulfulness.

I think guitar players can learn a lot from Daniel these days. He is very subtle, raw and straightforward in his playing which doesn't overwhelm the melodies of his songs. He has great sensitivity and a directness in his approach which I appreciate.
